Ethanol
Applications:
1. Solvent; organic synthesis; crystallization of various compounds; detergent; extractant;
Edible alcohol can be blended with liquor; used as adhesive; nitro spray paint; solvent for varnish, cosmetics, ink, paint remover, etc. Antifreeze, fuel, disinfectant, etc.;
2. 75% ethanol solution is often used for medical disinfection. Alcohol with a volume fraction above 99.5% is called absolute alcohol. Uses in biology: The pigments in chloroplasts can be dissolved in the organic solvent absolute ethanol (or acetone), so the pigments in chloroplasts can be extracted with absolute ethanol;
3. 95% alcohol is used to wipe the UV lamp. This kind of alcohol is commonly used in hospitals, but it is only used to clean camera lenses at home;
4. 70% to 75% alcohol is used for disinfection. This is because too high a concentration of alcohol will form a protective film on the surface of the bacteria, preventing it from entering the bacteria, making it difficult to completely kill the bacteria. If alcohol concentration is too low, though can enter bacterium, the protein in its body cannot be coagulated, and bacterium can't be thoroughly killed equally. Among them, 75% alcohol has the best disinfection effect;
5. 40% to 50% alcohol can prevent bedsores. The long-term pressure on the back, waist, and buttocks of long-term bedridden patients can cause bedsores. For example, when massaging, pour a little 40% to 50% alcohol into your hands and massage the pressured parts of the patient evenly to promote local blood circulation and prevent acne. Purpose of bedsore formation;
6. 25% to 50% alcohol can be used for physical fever reduction. Patients with high fever can rub their bodies with it to achieve the purpose of cooling down. Because rubbing the skin with alcohol can dilate the blood vessels of the patient's skin, increase the heat dissipation capacity of the skin, evaporate the alcohol, absorb heat, reduce the surface temperature of the patient's body, and relieve symptoms;
7. Ethanol is the main component of wine (the content is related to the type of wine).
Precautions:
Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The temperature in the warehouse should not exceed 30°C. Keep out of direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. It should be stored separately from oxidants. The lighting, ventilation and other facilities in the storage room should be explosion-proof, and the switches should be located outside the warehouse. Equipped with the appropriate variety and quantity of fire equipment.
